Fore-Play for Charity: A Day of Golf and Mental Health Awareness
Women standing beside and behind each other – never in front.
One in five Canadians will struggle with mental illness at some point in their lives, and it’s all too common that they will hesitate to seek help out of fear or shame. When TRUEdotDESIGN President, Shelley True, and her long-time friend, Colleen O’Connell-Campbell, joined forces to organize a women’s only networking golf tournament, they were committed to making sure that it would be a day of women supporting and promoting each other, while raising much needed funds for mental health research right here in the Ottawa community.
On a hot and sunny September 12th, 72 lady golfers came together at the Rivermead Golf Course for a day of networking and 5-star private course golfing. Thanks to our generous sponsors, the ladies were treated to a BBQ lunch, 10 holes of golf, giveaways and beverages at each of the holes, cocktails, entertainment and a delicious four course dinner at the evening’s gala. A very special thanks to The Loft hairstylists, and Burberry Beauty Bar makeup artists for providing hair and makeup to glam up the ladies after their round.
Dinner was hosted by the always entertaining Ottawa radio personality Mauler from HOT 89.9, where we welcomed relationship expert, Sue “Sex with Sue” McGarvie. After a day of fun in the sun, Sue incorporated a sexy dose of laughter and education into the dinner entertainment…after all, it’s called Fore-Play for Charity for a reason!
After a day of 50-50 tickets, raffle draws, live auction items and other fundraising activities, we were proud to announce that Fore-Play for Charity – Womens’ Networking Golf Tournament has raised $9,600 (over two years) for the Women for Mental Health program at The Royal Ottawa.
We are so thankful to all the golfers, sponsors, prize donors, and volunteers who made this fundraiser a glowing success. We were so excited by the results that we already started planning next year’s tournament to make it bigger and better than ever. If you or a friend are interested in playing in next year, be sure to sign up for news on the Fore-Play for Charity website – you don’t want to miss out on early registration!
