Instagram’s New Layout Update 2022

If you’re an Instagram lover (like us!), you will likely see – if you haven’t already – a big change to your home feed on the app. Instagram has made some big layout changes which will eventually be rolled out to all accounts over the upcoming months.

Both photos and videos will take up more of your screen space – with a taller, more portrait-style format. Since video is becoming a bigger part of the feed, it takes up more space thus all posts going forward will fill a 9:16 format (instead of the traditional square format).

What will remain the same – being able to add multiple photos (up to 10), in one post. You will still be able to engage, like, comment, share as you could before.

Instagram says, “the goal of these feed changes is to learn how people prefer to interact on mobile and if this 9:16 format is proven to be better for a mobile-first experience.”

If we compare it with TikTok we can see that they are already full-screen by default, so it’s likely that this change comes as an influence of their competition.
